Summer Chinese Dance Program

Program I

Young Artist Day Camp – Chinese Dance

Session 1: July 8 – 19
Session 2: July 22 – Aug 2
Age 5-10

Students will take classes in Chinese dance, tumbling, ballet, and folk dance in this two-week camp. The camp culminates in a showcase where students will demonstrate class routines and 1-2 short dance pieces. Each day, we will spend part of the afternoon doing traditional camp activities, such as arts and crafts, playing outdoors in Golden Gate park, and playing team building games.

Program Details:

Age: 5-10
Date: July 8 – 19 (Session 1), July 22 – Aug 2 (Session 2),

Time:M-F 9:30am – 4:30pm
Cost: $1,050 ($535/week)

Early Drop-Off and Extended Care available.

Sample Schedule:

8:30-9:00  (Optional) Early Drop-off ($5/day charge)
9:00-9:30  Drop-off (no charge)
9:30-10:50  Dance Class (flexibility and dance fundamentals)
10:50-11:00  Morning Break
11:00-12:00  Enrichment Activities / Tumbling (alternating days)
12:00-1:00  Lunch
1:00-1:45  Rehearsal / Folk Dance
1:45-2:00  Afternoon Break
2:00-3:00  Rotation of Enrichment Classes (drawing, crafts, clay work, etc.)
3:00-4:00  Outdoor Activity
4:00-4:30  Supervised Quiet Activity
4:30-5:30  (Optional) Extended Care ($10/day)

Program II

Chinese Dance Intensive

Session 1: July 8 – 19
Session 2: July 22 – Aug 2
Age 9+
 

The goal of this intensive program is to bring students to the next level of their dance technique, flexibility, and tumbling skills. Student must be enrolled in our year-round Chinese Dance program and have successfully passed Level 3 to attend this program. Non-High School of the Arts students with prior dance training may audition to join; please contact us for more details.

Program Details:

Age: 9+
Date: Jul 8-19 (Session 1), Jul 22 – Aug 2 (Session 2),

Time:M-F 9:30am – 4:30pm
Cost: $1,350 ($700/week)

Ms. Fengxuan Cao

Assistant Principal
In addition to serving as assistant principal, Ms. Cao teaches dance at High School of the Arts. She graduated from Beijing Dance Academy, the leading dance college in China, in 1997. Before she came to High School of the Arts, she was a choreographer with the Shen Yun Performing Arts Company.

Mr. Mike Lai

Dance Teacher
Mr. Lai graduated from Fei Tian Academy of the Arts in New York, and received a degree in Dance Pedagogy from Fei Tian College. He trained and performed with the world-renowned dance group Shen Yun for 5 years. He is an experienced choreographer and teacher of Classical Chinese Dance.

Ms. Caroline Sercombe

Dance Teacher
Ms. Sercombe obtained a B.F.A. from Fei Tian College. She toured around the world as a principal dancer with Shen Yun for 8 years, and in 2012, she won the bronze award in NTDTV’s Classical Chinese Dance competition in the Junior Female Division. She has taught dance for 4 years.
