Scholarships and Financial Aid

San Francisco High School of the Arts awards need-based tuition assistance to domestic students on a case-by-case basis. We takes into account a family’s need and the availability of funds before offering financial aid.

We partner with School and Student Services (SSS) in our financial aid process. To begin your financial aid application, you will complete the SSS Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS). The PFS is a comprehensive application that will take some time to complete.

You’ll need your most recent tax return before you can start. The application may take some time to complete, so we recommend that you begin the application as soon as you can.

We also recommend that you review the wide range of materials that SSS has put together to help families with the financial aid process. They are found at solutionsbysss.com/parents/resources. An introduction to the parents’ financial statement can be found here. 

If you have questions or need any assistance, please call the SSS family support center at (800) 344-8328. The center offers daytime, evening and weekend hours. Parents can also email sss@communitybrands.com for help.

Financial Aid Checklist

  • Step One:

Complete the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) Online with SSS.

After families submit detailed financial information online, SSS analyzes the data and recommends to the school an amount that each family can expect to pay for educational expenses. All families must complete a Parents Financial Statement (PFS) online. In the case of separated or divorced parents, both parents must complete the full PFS.

  • Step Two:

Submit your 2017 Federal Tax Form 1040, supporting schedules and W-2s or 1099 to SSS.

New applicants to Xian Yun Academy must submit their 2017 Federal Tax Form 1040, all supporting schedules, and W-2s OR 1099 (whichever is applicable) to SSS by uploading or mailing the documents to SSS. If you receive a W2 instead of a 1099, please click the “NA” button for 1099. Please do NOT include state taxes or worksheets. In the case of separated or divorced parents, both households must submit federal tax forms and W-2s or 1099.

To submit documents to SSS you should upload documents directly to SSS, following the instructions on the SUBMITTING REQUIRED DOCUMENTS section on the SSS website. Note: Files should not be larger than 4 MB.

  • Step Three:

Optional: Upload a Letter of Family Circumstances.

If your family has any special circumstances to communicate, please upload letters explaining your family situation to your SSS profile.

  • Step Four:

Submit 2018 Federal Tax Form 1040, supporting schedules and W-2s or 1099 to SSS.

We will communicate a preliminary financial aid decision to you once the application form has been completed.
After your 2018 tax forms are submitted to SSS, we will send you our final decision.

Admission Calendar

The San Francisco High School of the Arts begins mailing decision letters for the upcoming school year in mid-March. For completed applications received after mid-March, we generally mail out decision letters within two weeks after the family interview.
